Acme Streaming Co. (illustrative example, not a real company) serves 30 TB/month with the mix 60% North America, 30% Europe, 10% Asia Pacific.
Best fit and watch-out
Sites that already run on Google Cloud Load Balancing or use Media CDN for streaming.
Cache misses incur both cache-fill (origin to edge) and cache data transfer out (edge to client) charges, doubling cost on low-hit content. Everything is billed in gibibytes, not gigabytes, so a per-GB comparison against another CDN understates Google by about 7 percent.
When not to pick Google Cloud CDN
- Your traffic is dominated by a region where this vendor lacks PoPs (check the region pricing table).
- You need a flat monthly bill with no overage variance (Cloudflare or CDN77 bundles fit better).
- You need WAF, bot management, image optimisation in the same SKU (see the bundles page).
- You already buy compute on a hyperscaler and origin egress savings dwarf CDN egress (CloudFront for AWS, Cloud CDN for GCP, Front Door for Azure).
